Coffee has always been part of the mibo experience, but now it doesn’t have to end when you leave the café. Our new mibo’s Espresso Blend Beans have officially landed at Wynyard Quarter, Mt Eden and Milford locations, ready to drink in store or take home for tomorrow morning.

We talk a lot about specialty coffee at mibo, but we appreciate that not everyone lives and breathes coffee like we do. With that in mind, here’s an explanation of what makes specialty coffee so ‘special’ and why we adore it.

So, What Actually Makes Coffee ‘Specialty’?

Specialty coffee is less about how strong your coffee tastes, and more about what notes you can taste in it. Beans carry their own characteristics, which are influenced by where they were grown, how they were processed, and what happens during roasting and brewing.

That can mean some blends are nuttier, fruitier, sweeter, or have more chocolatey flavours, depending on the beans. In your cup, you might notice one coffee feels rich and comforting, while another is brighter or more fruit-forward, even when they’re made in exactly the same way.

It’s one of the reasons we’re so particular about what we serve at mibo, and why a new blend is always something worth getting excited about.

What’s Brewing at mibo?

The mibo experience has always been about great food, great drinks, and great company. Alongside our matcha, Mont Blanc and loose-leaf teas, you’ll also find a great range of specialty coffee, including our new mibo’s Espresso Blend Beans.

Roasted by Flight Coffee, the blend has notes of peanut slab, fig jam and brown sugar, which is a combination that feels right at home at mibo. Nutty, sweet and a little fruity, it has enough personality to stand on its own while also playing nicely with the flavours you’ll find in our pastry cabinet and kitchen.

Coffee and Pastries: Finding Your mibo Pairing

One of the nicest things about specialty coffee is that it can balance or enhance the flavours of food, and there’s plenty to experiment with behind the mibo counter.

Try our new Espresso Blend with a pistachio croissant and the peanut slab notes come to the fore. Pair it with our black sesame croissant, and you’ll notice the deeper, toasted flavours. Or try it with a cinnamon cruffin and lean into the combination of buttery cinnamon pastry and the blend’s brown sugar notes. A perfect pairing for anyone who likes their morning on the sweeter side.

Great coffee has always been part of what we do. Now it can follow you home too, with bags of beans available to purchase at all three mibo locations.

Come and try it for yourself at your nearest mibo.
