In Milford, the perfect start to the day practically falls into your lap. Start with the beach, then wander back through town, stopping at MIBO for coffee, matcha, or pastries to fuel the rest of your day.

Located at 87 Kitchener Road, MIBO Milford is a hive of activity in the morning, with dog walkers grabbing their morning pastry after the beach, locals collecting coffee on their way to work, friends meeting for matcha and retirees enjoying a slow brunch in the sunshine.

If you’re visiting Milford, here’s how locals make the most of it.

Start Here: What’s Good at the Counter

If it’s your first time at MIBO Milford, start by coming up to take a look at what’s in the cabinet.

The black sesame croissant has fast become one of the pastries that’s synonymous with MIBO. The pistachio croissant is another favourite, rich, layered, and with a subtle sweetness that’s surprisingly moreish. If you’re after something playful, the cinnamon cruffin is a great choice, while the mont blanc danish is exactly the kind of flavour combination we’re known for.

For drinks, you’ll find specialty coffee, matcha lattes, Mont Blanc, loose-leaf teas and seasonal options that change with the time of year. If you’re staying for brunch, be sure to check out our avocado sourdough or beef cheek eggs benedict for something more decadent.

That’s the nice thing about MIBO Milford. You can keep it simple with coffee and a pastry, or fuel yourself for an active day.

Walk It Off: Milford Beach

No visit to Milford is complete without a stroll along Milford Beach. White sand, calm water and views out to Rangitoto make it a natural before-or-after stop, especially when the weather is behaving.

At low tide, the coastal walk continues towards Takapuna and takes around 45 minutes one way, depending on your pace.

The Lake Down the Road: Lake Pupuke

Lake Pupuke is another great reason to make a little time for Milford. The volcanic crater lake sits between Milford and Takapuna, with a walking circuit of around 7km that takes approximately 90 minutes.

Grab a to-go coffee for the journey, or use MIBO as the reward waiting for you afterwards.

The Neighbourhood: Kitchener Road

Kitchener Road gives Milford its village feel. It’s the perfect place to wander, with boutique shops woven together with ordinary retail stores to accommodate locals and visitors alike.

That’s why MIBO fits so well here. It’s a North Shore cafe Auckland locals can drop into without making an event of it, but still special enough to feel like a treat.
